Oriental Medicine

Oriental Medicine is a complete medical system that includes acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, Oriental massage, nutrition and exercise. It is the oldest continuously practiced therapeutic system in use today.

Oriental Medicine theory explains that pain and disease are caused by either an imbalance or a blockage of energy, called "qi" (pronounced "chee"), in the body. Regaining balance is the basic goal of treatment.

Oriental Medicine looks at understanding and treating not just the symptoms, but also the root cause of illness. To do this, all aspects of a patient's life are carefully taken into consideration, as any apparent or hidden factors may have significant bearing on the patient's complaint. With this information, an accurate diagnosis can be made and a unique, individualized treatment given. When the underlying cause of a problem is corrected, the results are long-lasting or permanent.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a component of Oriental Medicine that involves the stimulation of acupuncture points with a variety of techniques including the use of needles, heat or pressure.

Acupuncture needles are very fine and insertions are painless. For particularly sensitive patients various needle insertion techniques may be employed to minimize sensations on the skin.

Stimulating acupuncture points can correct imbalances of qi, which flows through pathways in the body called meridians. Patients will feel a sensation when their qi connects with the needles, and it is usually described as a pleasant dull pressure, or sensation of movement.

There are many different approaches to the practice of acupuncture. Some acupuncture styles employed at Dailey Health are:

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
  • Auricular (ear) acupuncture
  • Balance method
  • Five Element

The number of treatments needed varies widely according to the condition. For treatment of acute diseases or traumatic injuries, several treatments in a few weeks may be recommended. Chronic conditions may require one or two treatments per week for a few months . Patients seeking treatments for autoimmune disorders, such as active M.S. or Parkinson’s disease, may need weekly treatments for an extended time to reach a remission stage. Once the patient’s condition has improved and stabilized, then treatments are scheduled less frequently. Most people reach a level of resolution to their condition, and the treatment course is completed. Some, such as those with autoimmune diseases or exceptionally chronic conditions, choose to receive treatments on a maintenance schedule after the condition has stabilized.

Dailey Health uses only sterile, disposable needles.

About Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbs are used for a great variety of disorders. Practitioners determine what formula to recommend, if any, after an extensive interview with the patient.

Chinese herbs come in different forms. Patent herbs are in the form of pills. Granules are herb powders that the patient mixes with water to drink. Bulk refers to herbs that are whole or unprocessed, which the patient soaks and boils in water, then strains and drinks.

Unlike Western herbs, Chinese herbs are seldom used by themselves. Typically, they are combined together with other Chinese herbs to make a formula. Many formulas that are still commonly used today were developed thousands of years ago.

Dailey Health uses only herbal medicines which are made in factories that have earned the Australian GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certification. These factories pass rigorous inspections and meet specific criteria which provide complete control over the manufacturing process. This control allows companies to guarantee the consistency and purity of their products. Factories that have earned the Australian GMP certification are the best herbal product manufacturers in the world.
